When is it the Appropriate Time to Utilize a Stun Gun?

First a Philadelphia police officer operated a stun gun on a teenager after he ran onto a baseball field during a Philadelphia game, then a drunk individual at a Players Tournament was disabled by a TASER device after heckling Tiger Woods, while a man in Minnesota who was held in Sherburne County jail states that he received a shock from a TASER weapon after shouting at officers.

Bringing about the question: When is it the appropriate time to utilize a stun gun?

Of course, everyone knows that when these self defense devices were invented they were designed so that people who required more protection could call upon the assistance of these tools whenever they needed them.

Unfortunately, these same devices have recently received more publicity in the news about the usage of them, then are generally seen. The first of course was the recent baseball game that saw a 17-year-old boy crumple to the ground after a TASER device was aimed at him and the second was at a golf tournament when a man, who’d had too much to drink, was disabled after a shock from an officer’s stun gun when he voiced his abuse to Tiger Woods.

These two instances have two individuals who, while may have caused a disturbance and a possible threat, were simply either looking for a way to achieve 15 minutes of fame or because of the effects of alcohol got out of control.
However, that’s not to say that these two individuals should be congratulated in any way with their behavior, or the officer’s in question should be punished. Both acted in a way that was considered a threat, and as a result both were dealt with in an effective way that delivered quick results.

Even though, many people may think that the use of these devices on both of these individuals may have been too forceful under the circumstances, were they really?

After all with the assistance of a stun gun or TASER device the officers were able to apprehend their suspects without prolonging the incident, meaning that the events could quickly resume once both individuals were taken away into police custody.

Now, while the use of a stun gun may not be appropriate at all times, there are times such as the baseball game and golf tournament, both major events, when security is going to be at its maximum. As a result, it’s going to be expected that if an individual decides to seek their 15 minutes of fame at these events, they will sooner or later feel the power behind either a stun gun or TASER device.
