Los Angeles International Airport was the subject of a bomb scare that saw a suspect hit by a TASER device after he claimed to have a bomb in a box when he ran into the Tom Bradley International Terminal.
The LAX bomb scare incident which took place in the late afternoon on Sunday unfolded when the suspect took a box belonging to a passage who was at a check-in counter, before he began screaming that the package held a bomb.
The terminal which was evacuated saw five airport police officers around the man before the TASER device was utilized on him, hitting him with a jolt of electricity. Moments later, on video footage that was caught from a witness, police tackled the man to the ground.
For 20 minutes the terminal was evacuated while officers undertook a check of the box with the help of police dogs. The box was found to contain no explosives.
Investigators explained that the man was undergoing psychiatric and medical evaluations, and as a result may have wanted to commit suicide by cop.
Nowadays airport security is a strict procedure that sees many new rules and regulations put into place as a result of 9/11. However there will be times when individuals try to breach these rules by scaring passengers about possible bomb threats.
Flying is something that is undertaken by millions of people all over the world; it’s also something that sees people take advantage of what others take for granted: security. Because of this, everyone who enters an airport is now looked at as a possible suspect when it comes to the safety of others.
However, now that airport security has stepped up in recent years, many passengers are able to fly with the confidence knowing that their safety is being looked after by officials throughout the different terminals.
Along with the traditional firearms that airport security carries around with them on a regular basis, they also have help from self defense devices such as stun guns, and TASER devices if they need to tackle a person at the airport who poses a threat to other fellow passengers.
