Another Fan, Another Baseball Field
All sports fan know that at some point there will be an incident that involves an individual who decides to jump the fence to run on the baseball field. And in most cases the usual signs are typically a drunken fan running onto the field with the crowd cheering him on. Next you will see a TASER device aimed at tackling the said drunken fan, and a team of security who brings the situation to an end.
The latest sports event that took place was in Baltimore at an Orioles Twins game. While the game was in play a fan took the opportunity to gain their 15 minutes of fame by running from the left field bleachers zigzagging across the field.
But what made this incident unusual, was the simple fact that the fan was allowed to do this for more than two minutes.
With video footage available, it shows that the security officers were in no hurry to stop the man as he continued his antics. Which ultimately begs the questions why?
In this day and age any unusual activity, especially at events that attract a large number of people demands a security force that takes their job seriously by being on high alert when it comes to the safety of the public.
Unfortunately this didn’t seem to be the case in this situation. Maybe the security team didn’t feel like they needed to run after the individual. Maybe they thought that if they ignored him, he would realize his foolishness and end it in his own time.
And yet, while these maybe some possibilities, they aren’t possibilities that can be taken lightly. Who’s to know what he could have done in those two minutes if his intentions were to create harm and destruction to the many spectators and baseball players that day.
Even if the security team were too lazy to chase after the man they could easily have utilized a TASER weapon to put a stop to his antics. These self defense devices are effective in that an officer no longer needs to apply brute force when taking down a suspect.
Now, all it takes is a quick stun and the individual will be incapacitated, thus ending any further attempts at disruption, whether it’s at a baseball game or in any other situation.
