TASER Conference Will See Police in Attendance

Next week officers from Victoria in Australia will meet in Philadelphia where a conference of American police chiefs will meet to discuss the growing concerns about TASER weapon safety.

The Police Executive Research Forum will be in attendance to evaluate its guidelines concerning the employment of the self defense devices after a debate began about the safety of the tools when its guidelines were updated last in 2005.

The findings presented at the conference could have dire consequences for the utilization of the personal protection weapons in Australia, where 30 are currently under trail in several of the police stations.

Furthermore, it was found that a TASER device was also accidentally fired at a police station earlier this month. Many of the officers who will be attending are aware that the tools have been used recklessly overseas and are hoping that when they hear from other agencies’ experiences with the devices the mistakes will no longer be repeated.

At the beginning of this month a 12 month trial in rural Victoria began to see how effective the use of the self defense devices were, where a decision will be determined at the end of the period to determine whether or not they will be put in place statewide.

Anyone who owns a TASER weapon will find that attending a conference aimed at them is extremely beneficial. For those who are new to the self defense world gaining as much information on these tools will only aid them when they most need them in the long run.

Of course it’s always easy to attend something and quite another thing putting it into practice.
