TASER Used to Subdue Cocaine Suspect
Officers recently had to employ a TASER device on a cocaine suspect after he tried to make a getaway in a car during an incident which took place overnight at a bar in the town of DeWitt.
The 34-year-old man who was subdued by officers was subsequently charged and arrested with resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance, aggravated assault on a police officer, in addition to driving while intoxicated. A 35-year-old male and a 25-year-old female were also arrested with possession of a controlled substance.
Around 2:30 a.m., DeWitt officers were called to a disturbance taking place at a pub. On arrival officers noticed a vehicle situated in the rear of the parking lot. As a result, they approached the car when one of the officers noticed a substance on the arm of an occupant inside the car. This substance appeared to be cocaine.
After the suspects were ordered to remove themselves from the vehicle, the 34-year-old man refused and struggled with officers as he attempted to make his escape by driving off. Because of this an officer employed his TASER device on the driver in a bid to subdue him.
With the situation under control, officers then transported the 34-year-old man to a hospital where he was treated for possible overdoes fears.
When it comes to cases such as these that sees a suspect attempting to make an escape in a vehicle, the only possible means of successfully stopping that from happening is with the utilization of a self defense device, such as the one employed.
Of course when it comes to drugs the use of these tools has raised questions about the safety levels involved. As a result, when the 34-year-old man was stopped officers then proceeded to take him to a hospital where evaluations could be undertaken regarding his health.
And yet, there will always be questions in the minds of the officers’ as to whether or not they should employ the TASER tools they have been given. But when it comes to the safety of an individual and preventing them from further harming themselves, then surely the use of such a tool is necessary.
