Pepper Spray Blowback Hits Officer
A police officer in Oregon was momentarily blinded when she utilized her pepper spray in a bid to prevent a driver from fleeing, when the spray blew back into her face.
Around 2:30 p.m., police in Hillsboro attempted to pull over a man as he didn’t have a license plate on his vehicle, in addition to having a warrant against his name for violating his parole.
When the man pulled into a driveway he quickly fled on foot away from officers. While he was running one of the officers giving chase decided to employ her self defense spray canister in a bid to blast him. Unfortunately with the wind against her it blew back into her face, where she was quickly hindered from carrying on with the chase.
Effective as the spray canister is, it’s important to remember that depending on where you are positioned when the wind is blowing, you have to watch out for possible blowback. Of course, the reason you are employing the canister is so that you can hinder an individual; you don’t want to find yourself hindered in the process because of the wind.
One way to prevent any blowback is to be aware of where you are standing and which way the wind is blowing. These are vital things to keep in mind whenever you need to employ the canister. Additionally, in order to maximize the use of your pepper spray, you may even want to consider attending a training course, which will teach you how to be aware of your position and how you can use the device to increase your protection.
This way when you do find yourself using it you will automatically place yourself where there is no chance of you being sprayed, thus preventing any harm coming to you.
Nobody who owns pepper spray wants to feel its effects when it has been deployed, and as a result of this you should learn all you can about your new protection device before attempting to use it. Knowing all you can about it, in addition to learning how to effectively use it will greatly increase your chances of stopping someone from harming you as you make your escape.
