Self Defense Class Raises Money for Victim of Acid Attack
A self defense class at Anytime Fitness successfully put together a fundraiser in a bid to help pay for the costs to treat facial burns suffered by a 28-year-old woman. When the injured woman was found around 7:15 p.m. she told police that a woman she didn’t know had walked up to her and threw acid into her face.
As Vancouver police officers, in addition to Major Crimes Unit detectives started their investigation into the attack; the 28-year-old woman was treated for facial injuries at a medical center in Portland.
After being released from hospital, the family held a press conference outside the fitness center to thank the people and businesses who had helped to donate money for their daughter’s medical treatments to take place. If anything, this will surely make the acid attack victim much stronger as a result of her attack.
Once the press conference came to an end, the family then went into Anytime Fitness, where around over 50 women as well as a little girl were present as men taught women vital self defense lessons.
During the class, women could be seen pairing up to practice hand to hand defensive moves, for example blocking an assailant with their arms and pushing someone away.
Afterwards, the owners of the fitness club explained the class was a great success, and that most of the women present expressed how empowering the lessons are for them. The class featured important things for a woman to look out for, such as signals that will trigger your intuition, how to notice things and avoid situations that could lead you into a confrontation with someone.
Self defense skills are becoming a vital part of everyday life, especially in the society that many people find themselves in. As a result of the crime that is present in many parts of the world, there is an increase in the number of people attending defense classes that can prove beneficial when people require them the most for their safety.
Another benefit to joining a defense group is that you are instantly surrounded by people who are going to support you throughout the time you stay with them and after. This was clearly evident when the 28-year-old woman suffered acid burns, but was able to get the necessary treatment due to the kindness of those around her.
