Street Crime the Result of Alcohol
Australia is seeing a rise in the amount of street crime, with it accounting for over 70 percent, according to a police commissioner.
On Friday night, police launched Operation Unite in a bid to crackdown on the amount of alcohol violence and abuse, only to face a tough weekend. Despite the fact that thousands of extra officers were assigned to trouble spots, the death of a 46-year-old man still resulted outside a pub.
Furthermore, an additional 737 people found themselves arrested throughout the weekend over alcohol related incidents.
Drunkenness, however, reached other parts of Australia, with 132 arrested in Melbourne, 110 in Perth and 41 in South Australia. In Queensland 279 were arrested, while in Alice Springs 300 people were taken into custody.
Underage drinking seems to be the cause for concern, and many police officials have urged people not to supply any minors with alcohol.
Worryingly, after the Salvation Army did a survey for its new alcohol awareness campaign, it found that 2.1 million people simply drink with the intention of just getting drunk.
The data further showed that 1.3 million people drink alcohol in order to feel some sort of normality.
In addition to worrying about the amount of alcohol a person drinks while away from home, it’s also important to worry about your safety. Travelling to a different country is an exciting adventure, and as a result it’s easy to forget yourself among your new surroundings without a care in the world.
Consequently, this lack of awareness could lead you to trouble. One way to avoiding any unwanted attention is to pack your pepper spray before flying, and make sure to carry it when out discovering your new sights.
It’s also vital that you bring your self defense spray when you are out at night, especially if you are venturing into a part of town where alcohol is running high, and the potential for a late night confrontation seems likely.
By protecting yourself in a foreign country, you will avoid the possibility of becoming a victim. Don’t forget yourself even though you’re in a new environment. Of course, it’s because you’re in a new setting that you have to remain vigilant and aware at all times.
