The Use of a TASER Prevents Tragedy

A Farmington police officer has saved the life of a suicidal man by utilizing a TASER device in order to subdue him.

The officers, who have been praised for their actions, believe that if they hadn’t quickly put into play their self defense devices then the outcome could have proved tragic for the man and family involved.

Early in the month, Farmington officers responded to a call from a home that was experiencing family trouble. When they arrived, officers were met by a woman who explained that a man was in the bedroom with a gun.

After officers went to investigate they found a man kneeling in the bedroom who had placed his shotgun under his chin. With his finger on the trigger officers attempted to talk him out of it without any success.

While officers were talking to the man, another officer was able to successfully remove his TASER weapon without the man taking notice. As officers gain the man’s trust, he lifted his finger from the trigger, providing an ideal opportunity for the officer with the stunning device to quickly employ it and subdue him.

This gave the officers plenty of time to apprehend the man before he was taken away to a medical capacity for treatment.

The availability of a stunning device for officers presents a different tool that can be employed while they are on duty and its assistance is required. However, before an officer is permitted to carry the device around with them, they must first undergo training which provides them the opportunity to tackle different situations and how they can effectively bring about control to a scene through the help of a TASER device.

And yet, while the device has received plenty of negative press over the years, in this situation, it proved how effective it actually is when a person’s life is in danger, and quick results are needed. If the tool hadn’t been available the outcome would have been different and tragic for those involved.

But while the self defense device may still receive negative press in the future, it will be down to circumstances such as this that families and individuals will be grateful they are around to tackle a dire situation with positive results.
