Latex Paint Won’t Prevent TASER Devices
Cheyenne police in Wyoming received an unusual surprise when they showed up at a home to investigate a call made about a domestic dispute.
When officers arrived they found a man inside the house with latex paint all over his body. The man who knew police were on their way had quickly covered himself in white latex paint in a bid to stop officers from employing a TASER device on him.
Afterwards, he explained that because the paint was wet, if the officers did attempt to target him with their self defense device, he would die. However, that is not how the stunning tool has been designed to work.
As the man should found out, simply covering yourself in latex paint doesn’t affect the working of the TASER weapon. When the man realized this, he soon began to fight with the officers, where he received stuns from the device twice, before they could successfully subdue him long enough to get him under control.
Once the man was handcuffed, arrested and taken away, officers then had to send their uniforms out for cleaning because of the paint. And yet, while the effort the man put into his idea of latex paint may have received an A, the actual effectiveness of the idea gets an F.
The idea of a TASER device is to successfully subdue a suspect from harming themselves or those around them. Because of this, the self defense device needs to penetrate all types of clothing, and latex paint if need be, in order to successfully prevent someone from continuing with their actions without harming them.
This means that while the idea of latex paint may have proven an effective idea to begin with, the simple fact of the matter is that the self defense device has been designed to target any person who is seen as a threat by only immobilizing their muscles for a short amount of time, therefore incapacitating them by preventing them from getting away; the employment of the device is not to kill them, even if wet paint has been applied to a person’s body as a result.
