Learning to Stay Safe with Pepper Spray
Nowadays, there are more students learning the importance of safety through their schools, and the same is happening at Penn Valley Community College, after a student stabbed another student on school grounds.
In its second sponsored year, the Alpha Theta Omega Christian sorority promoted their annual safety awareness fair for students to find out valuable information that could one day help them out in a dangerous situation.
By promoting the safety awareness fair Alpha Theta Omega is hopeful that its students will learn about the environment, safety tips, in addition to their surroundings. The sorority also made it a point to inform that the students should not be afraid of everything they see.
While crimes are unfortunately committed, they don’t have to be extreme. Students were also advised on how they can be more watchful when they are out. Simply scanning your environment can make a huge difference, as you will know who is out, and who could potentially be watching you.
Another option available to the students was purchasing pepper spray and alarms as safety precautions. These are wise as you don’t need to be close to your attacker when you aim your self defense spray in your attacker’s face or when you sound the alarm.
It’s always a good idea to be about six to eight feet away from your attacker, which means that your spray canister is a suitable choice and a more effective one too. Furthermore, when you have released the spray it will last from 30 to 40 minutes, providing you with enough time to escape.
School campuses are often a great place to learn about vital safety precautions. In some cases, students who leave their dorm rooms unlocked or even their property unattended will often fall victim to petty crime.
But learning about the simple steps they can take to avoid, these will ultimately remove them from a situation that could see them falling prey to an attack. Not only that, but by owning pepper spray your chances of protecting yourself while on campus will greatly increase your chances, compared to a student that doesn’t have any protection at hand.
