Think Pink and Think Self Defense
For millions of women across the globe, October is an important month for them. It is after all breast cancer month, and Relay for Life, is once again hosting its annual event that witnesses thousands of women turning out in the color pink.
This year, however, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Augusta County is not only asking women to think pink, but they are also asking them to think self defense.
Available to women of all ages and experience, they can gain vital skills through a self defense fund-raiser, while also receiving the encouragement to undertake regular breast self exams, and getting annual mammograms starting at the age of 40.
All participants who take part in the self defense course will see 100 percent of the proceeds go straight to Relay for Life.
Not only will they be receiving important skills at the Relay for Life event, but the women who take part will also be donating money towards the charity. It also provides the perfect opportunity for women to learn new skills when it comes to their defense.
These days, women are often too busy with family life and work life to find time for anything else; however, by attending the Relay for Life events during the month of October, they will be greatly increasing their protection just by knowing basic self defense steps.
And while there are plenty of women who may think that it takes more than one day to learn the necessary skills to protecting themselves, they will find out that is not the case. For those who have more time on their hands, they can spend developing those skills, but in most cases after the very first lesson, a woman will be capable to defending herself sufficiently.
In most cases though, all it takes are basic steps to help prevent an attack from happening to a woman. Some of the basic techniques they could learn may include being alert to their surroundings, how they walk, and making sure they look each person directly in the face in order to gather a visual of the people they pass in the street.
If a woman is more inclined to look at each person directly, then a potential attacker will be less likely to attack them, simply because they have a visual of what they look like.
So for Breast Cancer Month, why not also think about developing your self defense skills too.
