Stun Gun Rules to be Relaxed in New Jersey

The New Jersey Attorney General has announced that a new policy will be put into place that lifts restrictions placed on the utilization of stun guns employed by many police departments.

According to an obtained copy of the reviewed policy, police will now be permitted to subdue any individual who they think is a serious threat to themselves and those around them.

Less than a year ago, the original rules saw the restriction of the stunning device on individuals who were emotionally disturbed.

Now, however, the innovative rules will allow officers to employ their stun guns on suspects who are fleeing an area, in addition to those who have already been handcuffed. And yet, the policy has only been revised so far. Police will still find that they are prohibited from using the self defense device in order to force their suspects into complying with their demands.

The New Jersey Attorney General explained that the new rules put into place have been intended to provide officers with a suitable alternative to subduing a suspect instead of employing deadly force in certain situations.

With the new rules comes greater flexibility for many officers who carry a stun gun around with them while on duty. It also means that they will be capable of apprehending more suspects regardless of their mental stability if they think someone is likely to cause themselves harm.

While there will be plenty of officers happy with the reviewed policy rules, there will of course be others outside of the law enforcement who won’t agree with the changes made. However, it’s important for them to realize that while they may not agree with the function of the devices, there are many people who do.

Not only that, but there are countless individuals around the world who have come to rely on these self defense devices for their protection, and if the police can employ them on a person who may be attending to harm themselves or is consider a threat to others around them, then surely an effective device such as a stun gun is an ideal tool to have.
