Study Abroad Safety Expressed at MU
The University of Missouri is still encouraging its students to take advantage of the study abroad programs on offer regardless of the fact that travel alerts were announced by the United States State Department in response to recent al Qaida terrorist threats.
Currently, the University of Missouri has 35 of its students undertaking study aboard programs in 13 European countries.
A spokesman for the university explained that an email has been sent to all the students who are currently overseas. The main priority is the students safety and the team who oversees the study abroad programs is regularly monitoring travel warnings and travel threats.
Despite the recent threats, MU is hoping that its students will continue to remain abroad to finish their studying before returning back to America.
While students are abroad it is advised that they ask questions to their international study abroad team if they seem weary or cautious of continuing their studies. However, while many may be nervous about studying in another country, there are many who aren’t going to let a notice deter them from undertaking an experience of a life time.
Of course, while the prevention of a terrorist threat is often left in the hands of police experts, there are other ways that students can maintain their safety while studying in a foreign country. One way is to purchase pepper spray before flying abroad; however, make sure that the device is packed securely in your checked luggage before you board the plane.
Once you arrive at your destination you will be able to carry your protection device around with you, which will prove beneficial to you as you get used to your new surroundings.
While the experience of living in a new environment may be an exciting one, it is important that you remember where you are, and who you can trust. There are too many instances where predators can take advantage of the fact that you’re new and may not be aware of what you’re doing simply because you’re still getting a grip to your new way of lifestyle.
But with your pepper spray, you can protect yourself if someone does try to intimidate you. One spray from your canister will instantly tell your attacker that while you may be new, that doesn’t mean you’re someone to mess with.
