Crime Levels Take a Turn in Residential Areas
In Springfield, Massachusetts, things were quiet over the weekend after police had an active Friday night, that saw them making over 50 arrests.
Many residents living in the area now take the sight of officers on bikes, in cars or walking with community leaders in a bid to cut crime levels, as normal. However, according to one resident, five years ago the scene would have been much different; instead drugs would be frequent on the streets while the murder rate was high.
During Friday night’s event, Springfield officers increased their patrol in high crime areas for Operation Blue Heat. In a 24 hour period they managed to make over 50 arrests, taking drug dealers, prostitutes and gang members off the streets of Springfield.
When Saturday night came around, the same streets were devoid of any activity.
Residents have noticed that officers are more proactive instead of simply being reactive. They are taking the time to reach out to the people within the communities in order to find new ways that can assist at stopping crime.
Even though there are residents who agree that things are now moving in the right direction, they also believe that more can still be done to improve things, such as removing the number of gangs in the area and finding ways for the teenagers to employ their time instead using that time to commit crimes.
Of course, while Springfield police are implementing innovative ways to cut the level of crime there are other measures that residents can employ in order to maintain their safety. Purchasing a TASER device is an ideal device to own if someone wants to increase their protection.
Not only that, but it is possible to purchase devices small enough that can fit inside a bag, which means that if you should happen to be out at night in an area that is dangerous you can still have your self defense device with you to employ, should you require it.
No one should have to be a victim of crime, and by making sure that you are safe no matter where you are means that you can avoid such a situation from occurring.
