West Melbourne: TASER Device Stops Naked Goggle Runner
An 18-year-old man wearing only a pair of swimming goggles was seen running along a busy roadway on Monday in West Melbourne, forcing officers to employ a TASER device to subdue him.
Officers claim that if it had not been for the self defense device they wouldn’t have been able to catch him. One officer went on further to explain that after the man was apprehended they realized that the young man wasn’t aware of his location, his actions or was what happening. All he seemed to know was that he was running.
Calls were made from residents to complain about a naked runner, which is when police stepped in to arrive at the scene and remove the naked shoeless man from the area. After apprehending the 18-year-old man, police found him to be incoherent, and was charged with resisting arrest without violence and indecent exposure.
After his arrest, he was admitted to a nearby hospital for evaluation; however officers explained that the man suffered several cuts after his fall to the pavement.
Furthermore, the young man appeared apologetic for the inconvenience he caused, which prompted police to believe that he may have been under the influence of a chemical substance.
The young man explained to officers that he had initially left his home located in southwest Palm Bay around Sunday afternoon, and had been jogging since then. While he wasn’t making much sense to officers, officers believe that he if had been jogging that far he had undertaken an amazing distance.
When it comes to protecting the lives of citizens and those of the officers, a TASER device has become the ideal tool to employ. Not only does it provide effective results needed in difficult situations that require quick actions, but it gives officers plenty of time to apprehend their suspects while the individual’s body slowly regains control of its muscles.
In the situation with the naked goggle runner, the stunning device proved handy, as without it officers may not have been quick or effective enough to stop the man, who many claim was running extremely fast along the roadway.
Individuals who had taken chemical substances often display super human strength, and as a result a much greater tool was required to prevent the man from continuing his jogging: a TASER weapon. If he had not have been stopped who knows where he would have ended up.
