Self Defense Taught by Marines
Even though many are spreading the word about domestic violence throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month, there are others gaining important skills about the importance of fighting back.
Civilians and Marines have coordinated a self defense class in order to aid the general public in how they can protect themselves. The classes, which will be held during the month of October, are geared towards building individual’s confidence which will help them to protect themselves against an attacker if they should fall victim to an attack.
According to a second-degree black belt and instructor in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, the class has been designed to assist adults in learning how they can defend themselves in the most typical kinds of situations.
The class demonstrates the different ways an attacker can grab their victim, and shows the individuals taking part how they can prepare themselves in those various circumstances.
In order for the Marines to impart different movements upon their students they have incorporated various styles of martial arts which include jujitsu, judo throw, MCMAP, and Krav Maga. In most cases though, when it comes to actually defending yourself against an attacker, it doesn’t matter what type of technique an individual employs, just as long as the technique they use is done effectively and properly.
Furthermore, the Marines will continually go over the array of techniques, which will only further reinforce in the students taking part the knowledge and ability to know how to successfully react to an attack. Some of the moves demonstrated feature kicks, elbow strikes, knee jabs, and grabs.
Not only that, but throughout the class participants will receive feedback and guidance on how they can improve their performance, thus optimizing their protection. The self defense class is an ideal way at empowering people who could ultimately find themselves in a situation in later life that sees them needing to protect themselves.
During the class, those participating will consequently find abilities that they didn’t know they had. These skills, along with learning the correct techniques means that the students will develop greater strength and confidence in being able to protect themselves.
