Self Defense Seminars Provided by Ex-Marine
Tough guys get bullied as well.
That’s the message an ex-Marine and martial arts enthusiast is saying. Most work targets are popular, friendly, high performers who bosses like. And as a result of these go-getters and ambitious people on the job, they are generally seen as a threat to their co-workers. You are after all their competition.
The 46-year-old veteran of white-collar and blue-collar jobs, has started Sabotaging the Bully, which is a consulting business that delivers strategic advice based on an individual’s need on how they can successfully undermine and confront a bully through self defense within the workplace.
Throughout his life, the 46-year-old has seen people being bullied and no one has done anything about it. Even though HR may know what is happening they are not trying to help the victim; instead they focus on defending the company. Because of this, the ex-Marine believes that we are required to work outside the system in order to help those that need help.
According to a 2010 poll undertaken by the Workplace Bullying Institute and Zogby International, 35 percent of workers admitted to either being bullied currently at work or have been bullied at some point in their career life.
The ex-Marine is taking his services to karate studios, a setting that is popular due to its focus on building a person’s character, in addition to their self confidence. The seminars which run for 90 minutes focus on sabotage and damage control at work. Not only that, but time is also spent focusing on individual situations.
However, while the tone may be macho, it is teaching self defense techniques to those who can’t always employ their fists. The ex-Marine explains that the only difference between bullies at school and bullies at work, is that bullies at work are simply bigger kids with additional responsibilities. The seminars educate people on how to ignore their bully, how to trick them, how to employ body language for their gain, as well as how to pretend to be your bully’s friend.
Simply knowing how to look a person in the eye while utilizing good posture illustrates that you aren’t intimidated. However, while it may be easy to just turn the other cheek when it comes to workplace bullying, it’s important that you stand up for yourself. After all, this is your paycheck and the place where you work. You shouldn’t have to be afraid to have your voice heard.
