Night Out Against Crime

Organizers of the 8th Annual Pekin Night Out Against Crime are hoping that this year’s event will exceed the number of people who attended in previous years which will ultimately illustrate to criminals that law-abiding citizens and police are standing together in a bid to fight crime.

In 2009, the event saw over 2,000 people in attendance.

The Pekin Chief of Police explained, however, that public safety wouldn’t be accomplished in a vacuum and it wouldn’t be accomplished through a single police department. The only way public safety can be achieved is through a community that comes together.

The police chief went on to say that the police department is simply an extension of the community they serve in regards to public safety. As a result of this, the Night Out Against Crime is designed to illustrate a community that stands together against crime. The more people that attend the annual event will provide a picture to the number of people who are standing side by side with their fellow neighbors when it comes to maintaining a safe community.

The annual event also provides the opportunity for the police department to meet the citizens they are entrusted to serve on a daily basis.
