Pre-Christmas Anti-Crime Drive Launched in South Africa
South African police recently arrested around 40 squatters in downtown Johannesburg, after launching a nationwide campaign to tackle the yearly raise in crime in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
According to police, scores of squatters reside illegally in broken down buildings within the inner city, which often sees up to 10 people crammed into one room. As a result of these conditions they generally result in drug use and violent crime.
In South Africa, crime typically tends to increase around Christmas, particularly crime related to theft and domestic violence. In order to tackle this trend, the county is increasing the amount of police presence across the area.
Throughout the Christmas season and until the end of January this operation will be in place; however, in different areas there will be various focus points. When it comes to Soweto, Hillbrow and Johannesburg, the focus will be on house robberies, business robberies and car jackings.
Africa’s largest economy is troubled by one of the world’s largest crime rates and last year there was an average of 46 killings a day. However, this is the lowest level since 1994 when the apartheid ended.
As the South African police deliver their pre-Christmas anti-crime drive in a bid to tackle crime rates across the country, there are other ways that homeowners can take in order to prevent their homes from becoming targeted this Christmas season.
One way of course is to purchase a TASER device for your home protection. No one wants to have their home broken into as they enjoy their Christmas, or to come back from a traditional after Christmas dinner walk only to find that your home has been broken into and everything destroyed.
In order to prevent such an occurrence from happening, it’s necessary to protect your family belongings and yourself and family too with the help from a self defense device that can deliver a punch.
Christmas should be a time to enjoy with friends and family; it should not be a time that is spent talking to officers as they take away an offender who tried to ruin your festive holiday in a bid to steal from you.
