Columbia Votes Reject Proposal to Ban Stun Guns
Columbia voters recently rejected a proposal to ban stun guns and similar self defense devices often employed by law enforcement agencies and the general public for their protection.
On Tuesday the proposed ban failed by a margin of 77 percent to 23 percent. As a result of the final vote this means that residents and officers can continue to employ the devices when they require them for self defense.
Since 2008 supporters have been working to get the ban on the ballot in a bid to ban the devices from being utilized in the state. Now, however, after voters rejected the proposal people will be able to maintain their protection should they find themselves confronted with an attacker.
Of course, since the tools have been in use there have been many who have expressed their views about the devices by claiming that they produce deadly results. However, if you compare a stun gun to a traditional firearm it is clear to see that the stunning device is much safer compared to a gun.
Furthermore, the use of these self defense devices increases the protection of an officer, while also eliminating any harm that can come to the suspect and officer that may otherwise be incurred through other devices.
It’s important to remember that while these devices are in constant demand and are used across the United States, they should only be employed when a person’s safety is at risk. Those who are considering purchasing a stun gun should do so for their protection, but they should also understand the correct way of employing the device. This will help them to achieve maximum effectiveness out of the tool which will ultimately increase their protection.
Not only that, but by knowing how to employ a stun gun means that a potential threat will not be able to harm you.
This after all is what a person who wants to increase their protection is after. Now that the proposal to ban the stunning devices has been rejected, it will hopefully increase peoples’ understanding about the importance and effectiveness that these tools can produce when their assistance is called upon.
