Officer Employs Stun Gun to Fight off Aggressive Pit Bull
A deputy in Florida was forced to employ a stun gun in order to ward off an aggressive pit bull dog during an investigation of a dangerous dog complaint.
Martin County Animal Control were called in where they were able to remove a pit bull and another dog to the Treasure Coast Humane Society. The owners of the dogs are unknown, but the dogs themselves were located in a wooded area near the American Legion.
A couple who spotted the dogs reported them to the sheriff’s officer after the two dogs started chasing them as they walked passed the American Legion. After deputies arrived on the scene, they reported hearing growling and fighting in the woods and when they approached the two dogs, one of them became aggressive toward a deputy.
In a bid to maintain the safety of the deputies involved, a stun gun was employed which hit the dog’s hind leg.
Of course, while the deputy was forced to employ a self defense device on one of the dog’s, it’s important to remember that in many cases the way an animal behaves is purely down to how they are raised.
In today’s society Pit Bull dogs have received a negative name for their aggressive behavior towards others. Staffordshire Bull Terriers, a cousin of the Pit Bull often receive negative comments too. However, there are many people who own both these breeds who have raised them to be friendly dogs with no intention of deliberating harming others.
Why these two dogs were left in a wooded area is not determined, but clearly indicates the type of loving care they had if their owners simply abandoned them without a backward glance. In order to survive the dogs may have simply reverted back to their basic instincts in order to get through the days, and as a result simply saw everyone as a potential threat to them.
In the case of the two dogs, deputies were able to employ a stun gun on one of the dog’s legs in order to stop it from continuing with its aggressive behavior. Successfully maintaining the safety of the officers involved, deputies were then able to remove the dogs to a safer environment.
