With the dark nights now officially upon us, car insurance company Swinton, is giving advice to drivers that will stop people from being a target of crime during the winter months.
A survey undertaken by the insurance company of 1,200 of its online customers found that even despite the dark nights, a high number of people are failing to take the necessary precautions, with 32 percent admitting they don’t park in well lit areas, and 24 percent admitting to leaving their car running during the time they undertake the task of defrosting their car windscreens. Furthermore, 72 percent admitted that they left presents on the back seat of their car while Christmas shopping.

However, in order to prevent yourself from being in harm’s way, it is important that the basic measures are taken. For example, parking in areas that are well lit and removing or concealing valuables inside the car to stop thieves from striking.
Swinton were also kind enough to remind its UK drivers that leaving a car unlocked invalidates a car insurance policy. This means that when you need to defrost your car windscreen, do it with a locked car to stay safe and protected.
Of course, while it’s important to take these precautionary measures in a bid to prevent potential thieves from striking, it is also worthwhile to think about purchasing pepper spray. This device will assist you if you should find yourself confronted with a thief and will ultimately prevent you from becoming a victim of car crime this winter.
