TASER Device is Used on Violent Party-Goer
Police were forced to employ a TASER device on a violent party-goer after it was alleged that he attacked three officers on the Gold Coast.
The officers were initially attempting to break-up a fist fight between three man in the early hours of the morning when one of the men involved turned his attention towards the police. The 21-year-old suspect allegedly hit out at the officers.
In order to control the situation pepper spray was first employed on the man; however, when this failed he was quickly subdued with a stunning device employed by police. As a result of his actions he was charged with assaulting police in addition to obstructing police and public nuisance.
A second 23-year-old man from Nerand, was also charged with public nuisance and obstructing police, while the third individual involved, a 31-year-old man from Upper Mount Gravatt found himself charged with public nuisance.
Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for officers to carry self defense devices such as TASER weapons while on duty. However, while this may be the case, they generally only employ these tools as a second form of defense. If there is any way for them to otherwise decrease tensions within a situation they will do so. And yet, if it is clear the these measures are failing, consideration for another defense type will be called into play.
After all, an officer’s job is to serve and protect the public interest which means controlling a hostile situation in the quickest time possible while also making sure that the least amount of harm comes to all those involved, be it offender or officer.
This means that when a situation is proving difficult to control a TASER device is greatly relied upon by officers. Not only is it an ideal tool to employ to prevent offenders from attacking officers, but it reduces the risk they could potentially do to themselves.
It is also a device that many law-abiding citizens have come to rely upon across the United States for their safety as well. Without the stunning device many would not be able to protect themselves. As a result, many lives have been saved and countless suspects have been apprehended.
