Rise in Crime on City Properties

According to Madison police, four break-ins or attempted break-ins in Wiscousin on the southwest side are the latest incidents to be added to the rise in property crimes in the city.

Recently, a woman residing on Tottenham Road notified police when she heard someone attempting to enter her home, with the suspect fleeing when she went to the door. When police arrived at the woman’s home they found pry marks outside the door.

A second break-in attempt occurred an hour later on Stratford Drive, a few blocks from the residence on Tottenham Road

The resident explained to police that someone had pried open his front door; however the suspect was incidentally scared off before being able to gain entry.

Two further break-ins were reported at a residence in a block on Stanton Lane and the block on Hammersley Road.

Crime analysts have reported a rise in the amount of property crimes in numerous areas of the city, which also includes business and residential burglaries on the west side. While district commanders are noticing more reports of break-ins in vehicles and residences in the central and south districts.

Of course, while police are encouraging residents to report any suspicious behavior in their neighborhoods, it’s important that they have a form of protection they can rely on if they should find themselves confronted with an unwanted guest.
