According to a police detective there has been an increase in the number of house burglaries since the beginning of November. Since November 5, there have been nine burglaries with two attempted burglaries since November 5 too.

In one house burglary, the homeowner actually saw the unwanted intruder walk out the door, but was not apprehended. In the recent burglaries cash and jewelry were the primary items stolen. However, while Scotch Plains has noticed a rise in house burglaries, nearby communities have not reported an increase.
