Cab Rules Introduced to Maintain Women's Safety at Night
The new rules set in place will see that each firm has to keep a database of all the contractual workers, security personnel, employees and cab drivers while police must have access to the information provided. Not only that, but only security personnel from licensed agencies will only be hired.
This move by the police in Delhi is intended to control the rise in numbers of robbery incidents and gang rapes where employees working late have been a target of. One 30-year-old woman who was returning home late at night was subsequently kidnapped and raped by five men.
As a result of these new rules put in place, senior security officials will find themselves accountable if they fail to make sure that women are not travelling alone at night in a cab. Each cab is required to have a verified security guard carrying women staff home. Additionally, the routes need to be chalked out remembering that a woman should not be picked up first or dropped home last.
