Stay Safe this Festive Season
West Mercia Police in England have commenced its annual Operation Christmas Presence campaign by focusing on the importance of making sure that party-goers have a safe means of getting home before heading out, not drinking too, in addition to never drinking and driving and taking the means to avoid any possible trouble.
Furthermore, people are being warned that they should never leave their drinks unattended and to make sure they stay with friends throughout their evening out.
In most cases, drinking too much alcohol has the ability to make people feel vulnerable or they could either lose their inhibitions or become more aggressive than what is usual for them. In order to avoid these instances officers will be carrying out patrols during busy nights over the Christmas holiday.
Additionally, the seasonal safety message also focuses on the importance of investigating sexual assault or rapes claims made by men and women on nights out.
- Don’t walk home alone and stick to main roads, avoiding shortcuts and areas that are not lit properly.
- Drivers should remember not to drink and drive. They will still be over the limit the following morning after a night out and as a result officers will be conducting breath-tests across West Mercia to make sure drivers are not endangering their lives and the lives of others.
- For those employing public transport they are advised to have their change, ticket or pass at hand to prevent others from stealing their wallet. Also, when waiting for public transport stick to well-lit areas and near other people.
