TASER Devices for Aurora Police
The police chief explained to the committee in charge of the Police Support Fund that research has illustrated that the utilization of the self defense devices reduces the number of injuries to suspects in addition to the liability that is often turned towards police departments.
Furthermore, the employment of TASER devices has helped with saving the lives of suicidal suspects.
The police chief went on to explain that individual weapons for the department will have a camera and a microphone, which will add important visual and audio recording of any situation when an officer is required to employ the device against a suspect.
Prior to actually using the device, local officers will undertake eight hours of training in order to understand how to effectively use the device and how to employ it so that they get the most out of it when needed.
Currently Aurora is the only police department that does not employ the tools.
In most cases, while officers realize that they must protect the public, at the back of their minds is the nagging reminder that if something goes wrong they could face charges. However, with the use from a TASER device that nagging feeling is no longer prevalent in the minds of officers. This means that they can go about doing their job with the confidence required.
