TASER and Police Dog Apprehend Copper Thief
Police were on the scene of a break-in which occurred at the Windsor Music Cafe in the early hours of the morning where they found a door ajar. After entering the location, they searched the building and found a man going up the stairs.
Officers ordered the man to stop; however, when he failed to do so they released the police dog who quickly took down the suspect as he tried to flee the area. When the man continued to resist, a police TASER device was employed on him.
After taking their suspect away the copper thief was found to have stripped copper pipes and fittings from the building. He was also found to be wearing purple gloves in addition to carrying a backpack which contained a black toque and a yellow knife.
The 30-year-old man faces charges which include possessing stolen property, breaking and entering as well as possessing tools which helped him to break in to the building.
In less than a week this has been the second copper-related theft reported to police. Earlier in the week, police said a line worker was arrested after police uncovered a nine-month scheme which featured copper being smuggled out to be sold at cut-rate prices.
According to police the man stole and sold 116,000 copper welding tips which saw a massive total of 5,800 pounds of copper.
Nowadays, more police departments across the United States are utilizing these tools for their well-being and for the safety of those around them. Without the use of TASER devices within the police force, officers would be required to employ brute force which often brings about injuries to both the officers and their suspects.
However, with the employment of the self defense devices not only are they non-lethal, but the officers who use them aren’t required to be close to their offenders in order to achieve the maximum results they require in order to bring a situation under control.
