Student Affairs Vice President Addresses Students on Campus Safety
The event was hosted alongside the NUPD as well as the Counseling and Psychological Services at Northwestern. Due to the shooting incidents, students expressed their concerns about the availability and the effectiveness of CAPS when it comes to addressing mental health problems in a timely manner.
In addition the meeting also discussed the importance of students reaching out to their peers which is essentially a way in which most students find help.
Of course while resources are an importance factor when it comes to dealing with issues on campus, counseling is not the only way to tackle an issue; the community can also get involved when it comes to dealing with serious issues.
One way for them to do this is through the ownership of pepper spray.
Additionally, it is a non-lethal form of protection, which means that discomfort to the individual targeted will be momentary, essentially giving the would-be victim plenty of time to make their escape and to alert campus police.
