Student Affairs Vice President Addresses Students on Campus Safety

The Vice President of student affairs at Northwestern university in Arizona spoke to college students and staff on the importance of campus safety after students raised their concerns about the shootings which took place in Tucson, Arizona at the beginning of the month.

The event was hosted alongside the NUPD as well as the Counseling and Psychological Services at Northwestern. Due to the shooting incidents, students expressed their concerns about the availability and the effectiveness of CAPS when it comes to addressing mental health problems in a timely manner.

In addition the meeting also discussed the importance of students reaching out to their peers which is essentially a way in which most students find help.

Of course while resources are an importance factor when it comes to dealing with issues on campus, counseling is not the only way to tackle an issue; the community can also get involved when it comes to dealing with serious issues.

When it comes to the emergency response times NUPD is able to respond within two minutes to campus emergencies and trains in rapid response situations such as campus shootings while also educating staff on the protocol for emergency situations.

Of course, when it comes to the importance of campus safety and the measures taken to increase student and staff safety, they should also consider measures in which they can ensure their protection is in their own hands.
