Safety Tips for those Jogging at Night
However, it’s important to remember that jogging doesn’t simply just mean putting on your jogging clothes and heading out for a 10k run. These days you also have to take into consideration your safety, in addition to the weather, the time of day you’re running and making sure others can see you and you can see others.
With our busy lifestyles many may find it hard to slot in a time when they can go out for a run. Many in fact chose to either wake up early or head out in the evening, both times of the day when daylight is limited and safety with running in the dark of paramount importance.
Below are a few tips on how joggers can maintain their safety while running in the dark.
Sight.
Visibility is an essential part of jogging. When out jogging you should stick to well lit areas that illuminate the streets you are jogging on. However, if you pick a route or trail that has some stretches that are un-lit, make sure you bring your own light with you.
Be Seen.
If you decide to run on the road, make sure that drivers can also see you. Reflective clothing is an important part of any joggers wardrobe. For extra visibility, you should also consider wearing a headlamp that also has an LED light on the back. Blinking lights are ideal in these situations as they have been designed to grab the driver’s attention.
Another area that should be highlighted is that all joggers should be aware of their surroundings and if possible to avoid running alone. While it may be tempting to jog with headphones, you should also avoid doing this because it blocks out background noise.
Of course, an ideal way of increasing your safety is by bringing along protection while you are out jogging. While there is the protection from your four-legged friend, you can also bring a stun gun too.
Joggers will never know whom they will confront while out for a run, but simply knowing that you have a dog with you and your self defense device too will make your run that much more enjoyable and rewarding when you finish it.
