TASER Training for More Police in South Yorkshire
According to South Yorkshire Police, in the last year there have only been 23 incidents where the self defense device was employed on people.
A police spokeswoman explained that the units were often employed to stop suicides, to calm domestic abuse cases and to prevent assaults on emergency services staff.
Additionally, there were also 76 cases reported where a person was simply red dotted, which is the warning before the TASER device is actually fired.
A police superintendent of the South Yorkshire Police said that increasing the amount of officers who carry the stunning tools on duty has been a successful initiative that has helped at keeping residents in South Yorkshire safe.
Without the TASER device, officers would still be applying brute force in situations that didn’t require it, while members of the public would often find themselves defenseless if they should find themselves a target.
