The Number of Crime Rates Decline As Sex Offences Rise
Figures released illustrated a 13 percent drop in crime in the North-East during the 12 months to September 2010, compared to 2009.
In North Yorkshire, a ten percent decline was reported for the same period. According to the British Crime Survey there were 209,516 crimes reported in the area over 12 months.
However, the cause for the rise in figures was down to the sex offences reported. These had risen by eight percent in the North-East and four percent in North Yorkshire.
Of course, while vehicle crime and criminal damage have declined in many areas illustrating the effectiveness of police work, the sex offence incidents are still an area that needs to be dealt with in order to ensure residents safety.
