Pepper Spray Use is Defended by Local School Board
While this may not be the response that parents are looking for within the school system, school officials are saying they have no federal duty to defend students from third parties.
This essentially means that the school board is not taking any responsibility for police officers who work as resource officers in the schools. In a statement from the school board’s attorney, it said that the system did not protect student’s safety from that of resource officers; however, this did not mean they weren’t defended by the state law or indeed the school policies.
Of course, while this is proving a contentious issue with many parents, it has to be remembered that the employment of pepper spray on students is only done if they are in fact proving a threat to other students and are acting in an unruly manner.
Measures have to be put into place to ensure the safety of students and by employing the self defense spray canister, it is done in a way that is harmless, but in a way that still achieves maximum results at preventing a situation from going any further.
The safety of the students is at the forefront of the school board which means that measures have to be put in place to ensure that their safety is put at risk.
While not everyone will be happy with the use of pepper spray on school grounds, this device is a much better and safer option to consider compared to the use of brute force that has the potential to deliver injuries to both the student and the resource officer.
