Cyclist Receives Bite Injuries from Dog
However, this is not always the case as one cyclist soon found out after he was confronted with two aggressive dogs.
The 35-year-old man was riding his usual route when he encountered two dogs that he had never seen before. One of the dogs came up to him, but the 35-year-old was able to deter the dog by yelling at it. The second dog was behind a fence at the time.
On another occasion, both the dogs happened to be outside on the road as the cyclist rode past. This time when they spotted him riding along they charged after him and ended up running on either side of the man.
Consequently, it wasn’t long before the bigger of the two dogs made a lunge towards the rider and grabbed at his glove which was ripped away. He then attacked again and latched on to the rider’s thigh.
As the rider was already highway up a hill during this ordeal it is amazing that he was able to stay on his bike given the dogs weight. With the dog latched on to his thigh the rider cried out in pain which may have been what forced the dog to let go.
The smaller of the two dogs continued to bite at the cyclists heels, but after a water bottle was thrown at him, that soon deterred the dog from continuing.
After the incident it was determined that the rider has suffered a puncture wound, but was not injured seriously.
Cyclists are used to encountering dogs on their travels; however, this type of dog attack is extremely rare.
But while these types of incidents are rare, that shouldn’t stop cyclists from thinking about purchasing a form of self defense. In most cases cyclists use a form of pepper spray that postal workers also employ while doing their rounds.
This device is the perfect safety mechanism for cyclists to own as once sprayed it will temporarily sting the animal’s eyes giving the cyclist plenty of time to get away. It is also small enough for cyclists to clip on to their jerseys for instant access should they need it.
