Police Called to Employ TASER Devices in New Bedford
The president of the City Council has revealed that the police department first received 40 of the self defense devices last year, but has noted that the tools themselves have not been used by the officers.
As a result, the council believes that these stunning devices need to be on the streets in order to provide the officers with the necessary tools they need to tackle criminal activities during certain times.
While the TASER devices have been in storage that isn’t to say that is because the police chief doesn’t believe in their use, rather he is waiting for the state Executive Office of Public Safety and Security to approve the devices polices and procedures.
However, once they have been approved then officers will be able to employ them while on duty for their protection and the protection of the public. A public announcement will also be scheduled before the devices are put on the street.
