Winchester Churches Propose New Night Safety Scheme

Winchester churches are proposing to set up a national late night safety scheme to be located in Winchester, England.

In over 130 towns and cities in Britain there are street pastors who work on Friday and Saturday nights where they offer support to people on a night out.

Their primary role is to act as a calming influence, in addition to handing out water and blankets to those who need them while also taking the time to make phone calls and to arrange taxis for those who need a life home on their behalf.

Winchester Crime Reduction Partnership in connection with the police have turned to city churches to aid with the plan, with 11 joining up with the proposal. In order for the patrol to be successful, on Saturday nights a team of 30 pastors is required with an extra 30 to do Friday nights too.
