Deputies Perfect the Art of Self Defense in Aikido Classes
Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department deputies was recently seen taking part in classes which are a Japanese martial art that was founded by Morihei Ueshiba. The training undertaken is designed to go along with the training officers are initially taught.
One deputy said that as far as police training goes when it comes to self defense the skills they undertake are limited and basic. As a result they have taken it upon themselves to learn aikido in order to keep their skills up. This will essentially make them better at their job and more effective as well when it comes to tackling hostile suspects.
Many officers can already see a difference in what the training does for them as it helps to make arrests smoother and the escorting of suspects simpler who may be reluctant to comply with police orders.
While these self defense courses are also available for adults and children, this particular class has been created specifically for officers. Regardless of who you are the skills learned will aid an individual in a threatening situation, for example facing an attacker who may be armed with a knife or gun.
A six-week self defense course will also be offered for women this summer too.
Not only is it a great way to keep fit, but simply knowing that you can effectively defend yourself with your own hands or with the assistance from what is around you will greatly increase your confidence.
