Self Defense Classes Aimed at Empowering Women
If a woman is beaten by someone they know, a boyfriend or husband or someone they don’t know, speaking out about the incident can often be the hardest thing for them to do. However, in most cases learning how to fight back can be even harder.
In one incident a woman is in a well-lit Walmart parking lot. Cameras show that the woman is loading her bags into her car. Before long the camera also shows a stranger approaching her. Her attacker sprays her with mace spray, beats her and breaks her arm in a bid to steal her purse.
Even though she explains that she should have let go, at the time she said that she couldn’t think. Eventually after one final hit that sent the woman down her attacker made off with her purse while bystanders gave chase after him.
While they managed to get her purse back, the attacker himself has never been caught.
Police explain that since 2008, stalking and domestic violence cases have risen. In 2010 there were around 4,400 cases alone.
The good thing is that more women are finding the courage to come forward and report what is going on. No one has to live in today’s society by being silent about the abuse that they are suffering thanks to the available resources that police have.
But, there are some women who are taking measures to make sure that they don’t become a victim again. Through self defense classes women have the opportunity to acquire essential defense skills which will help them when they need it most in a life threatening situation.
The key factor to know when it comes to self defense is being aware of your surroundings and trusting your instincts. Not only that, but it doesn’t hurt to fight back too.
One thing people fail to realise is that once you have been attacked your chances of being attacked again are considerably high. This is why it’s important for women to learn the skills necessary in order to prevent an attack from happening in the first place.
