Surrey Police Warn Homeowners Not To Give Burglars Easy Access to Homes
The warning comes after three burglaries occurred where entry was gained with the help of unlocked doors. As a result, thousands of pounds of items were stolen.
In the early evening of the 12 and 14 February, items which included a Sony digital camera, a diamond engagement ring and Dell laptop were stolen after burglars took advantage of an insecure back door.
A gentleman’s jacket and a large amount of money were also stolen.
In order for homeowners to feel secure in their houses and to avoid burglars from targeting them, they should follow simple tips on how to keep your property secure:
- Always make sure that your windows and doors are locked, even if you are just going out to the garden or the shops.
- Restrict access to your back garden by installing a lockable gate and a solid fence.
- Have deadlocks added to all your outside doors. Burglars won’t be able to gain access as you will need a key to open these.
- Also install key operated locks on your windows that may prove ideal for burglars. Burglars don’t like attracting attention to themselves, so this will prevent them from having to smash the windows which will draw noise to their actions.
- Position your DVD and TV in a way that is not visible to those outside.
- Have a timer on your lights and radios for when you are away which will give the impression that your house is occupied.
- Also, install a home security alarm making sure that you turn it on and employ it overnight.
As a result of this, owning a self defense tool that you can rely on is worthwhile as it will greatly increase your confidence and your safety inside your home. Your home, after all, is designed to protect you, so you should take the time to protect what is rightfully yours under your own roof.
