Safety Audit Conducted by Women

In a bid to make Mumbai a safer place for women, a non-profit organization has produced a formal safety audit. The safety audits will be conducted by 30 local women from the NGO which will see them interviewing different women in order to establish what their feelings are when it comes to their safety in public spaces.

It will also include four safety walks which will take place in the daylight and at night. These walks will take place in some of the most unsafe areas in order to mark them on a map to better educate women.

Some of the unsafe areas are those that feature low lighting and corners where individuals could potentially hide in addition to public toilets.

When it comes to the women of Mumbai, their biggest fear is that of violence. As a result, this fear can often be the choosing factor when it comes to their career choices.

However, it is hoped that the safety audits will be a movement that is taken up by additional organisations which will see the whole city mapped that will help women determine the safest route home.

When it comes to women’s safety, it is important that they have a form of protection on hand that they can rely on when they need it the most. While it is essential that safe routes are determined so that women can get to and from home safely, simply knowing that you have a self defense device on hand will increase your protection greatly.
