Selby Violence on the Rise
Figures show that the number of reported violent crimes in Selby for the month of January was 48, compared with 30 incidents reported in December 2010.
Antisocial behavior and burglary also saw an increase, with 17 reported burglaries in January compared to the previous month that only saw 14. Antisocial behavior had 90 reported incidents in January which was nine more compared to December.
An inspector in charge of policing the Selby area explained that he expected a rise in crime during the months of January and February claiming that the increase could be down to the fact that when people have no money they turn their attention to criminal activities.
With regards to the rise in antisocial behavior, this the inspector claims was down to the bad weather that was experienced at the end of the year.
However, while the number in violent crimes and antisocial behavior saw a rise, the number of vehicle crimes fell in January to five, two less compared to December.
