TASER Devices for Central Falls Police Officers
Before the 38 officers were permitted to employ the self defense devices as part of their protective equipment they were first required to undertake training with each of them experiencing the stun in order to understand the effect produced.
Many of the officers who experience the stun are glad to do so as they are able to know what a target will experience once the device has been fired. Not only that, but with the introduction of the TASER devices at Central Falls it is hoped that people won’t be as inclined to initiate trouble.
In 2008, Central Falls had a number of officers off duty due to a range of injuries they had sustained while on duty. Some of which included broken hands, a separated shoulder and a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
When it comes to the employment of a traditional firearm compared to a stunning device many suspects aren’t afraid of a gun as they realise that in many cases an officer won’t actually fire the weapon to then have to live with the choice they made. However, when it comes to a TASER device, because these are non-lethal devices, officers are more than likely going to employ them.
As a result of this, once a person sees an officer draw their protective equipment they often reconsider their actions. For them it’s much better to compile with police orders than to find themselves subdued by a stunning device.
More and more police departments are turning their attention to TASER devices for police protection and it’s no wonder why. After all, they present the prefect means of protecting those involved which means that officers can spend more time on the streets tackling crime instead of taking time off to recover from injuries sustained while on duty.
