Machete Wielding Man Apprehended by Police Stun Gun
According to authorities they were call to the scene where the 25-year-old man was located after reporting that he was shot in the head. However, when emergency workers arrived he refused their treatment.
He then became hostile towards police after they arrived on scene where they found the intoxicated man holding an 18-inch machete. Ordering the man to drop the weapon he refused and continued to approach them.
As a result of his combative actions he was then apprehended by a stun gun which saw him falling to the ground allowing officers to take him away into police custody. When he was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler he refused treatment.
Previously, officers may have been forced to employ a firearm which came with the added risk of bodily harm. Now that officers have extended their police protective equipment they can instead utilize a non-lethal weapon on a suspect knowing that while they do so they won’t be harming the person targeted.
Gaining control of a situation is a necessary requirement in order to end a potentially dangerous situation and now officers are able to do so. The role of an officer is not to harm a suspect, but to apprehend them in order to take them away into police custody.
