Pembrokeshire is to Begin Switching off is Night Street Lights
There are a number of councils that are already starting to turn off street lights at night; however, this has prompted criticism from various road safety groups. Pembrokeshire council has stated that lights in town centers would stay on, but that none of the county’s 16,250 street lights would be turned off as a permanent measure.
Instead these steps are being taken in order to reduce its carbon footprint and to save around £200,000 a year on its energy bills. Ceredigion council, a neighbor of Pembrokeshire, has already begun to turn off its street lights after midnight while Carmarthenshire has plans to follow suit.
Of course, while these measures are being put in place it is only natural that residents will want to voice their concerns over the proposals when it comes to their safety. Many people who work late may find themselves walking down certain streets where street lighting has been turned off. As a result, they may start to question their protection and how they can improve it during these times.
One way of doing so is for them to think about purchasing a stun gun. Nowadays, there are more individuals relying on these for their safety particularly if they walk down dark streets. While you may not actually become a target of an attack it is always better to be guarded against the possibility than not.
A stun gun means that your safety worries will drastically reduce. And if you do find yourself the target of an attack you can effectively remove yourself from a potentially dangerous situation.
