University Students and Residents Learn Vital Safety Skills
The meeting was an informational meeting with the Baton Rouge Police Department for residents and university students to learn about the rising crime levels in the area and for more people to be aware of their surroundings.
Information was passed out to those who attended highlighting basic street sense as well as home security measures that can be put into place, such as locking windows and doors and remaining on high alert at all times.
The emphasis, however, was certainly placed on locking doors as the complex has experience of numerous burglaries that have occurred as a result of individuals leaving their cars and apartments unlocked.
One business freshman and Venue resident explained that his laptop had been stolen from his unlocked apartment last week. He said he heard the door knob jiggle while he was in his room. As he ran to the door he saw the man walk away.
While these break-ins may not happen all the time they are still a problem that needs to be corrected.
Not only that, but learning vital self defense skills will also benefit you in the long run as you will learn how to utilize everyday objects in order to defend yourself if a burglar manages to gain entry to your home.
