High Number of Leithers Have Crime Fear

According to a recent police survey, Leith residents in Edinburgh feel less safe in their community compared to other residents in the capital. The survey found that around two thirds of Leith residents were unsafe in certain parts of where they lived compared to the average 47 percent in the city.

Factors cited as potential problems in the area include street drinking and prostitution, in addition to around a third of residents reporting that drug dealing and drug use were a big problem that residents had to face.

Those living in the Sighthill/Gorgie ward explained they feared walking around at night, with 27 percent claiming that they felt very unsafe when doing so. Noisy neighbors and safety issues were also problems that many residents had to tackle. While burnt-out cars and dog fouling also featured on the survey as issues to be dealt with.

When it comes to the hospitalization rate it has twice the amount that the city has when it relates to drink and drugs.

The assistant chief constable explained that they issued the survey in order to understand the worries that many people face so that they would have a better chance of tackling those concerns.

However, while the issues at hand won’t be solved straight away there are measures in which residents can put into place in order to ensure their own protection at all times. One such measure is for residents to purchase a stun gun.
