Rise in Burglaries Forces Victim to Remain Scared in their Own Home
Bournemouth Crown Court heard that after being targeted three times in the past three months, the pensioner is still haunted by memories of the incident. In a statement, the woman explained that the incident had left her extremely upset and fearful. Not being able to sleep the 85-year-old pensioner is questioning whether she still wants to live in her house.
The woman was not in court to see the 41-year-old suspect jailed for three years; however, he pleaded guilty to burglary while also asking for eight other home burglaries to be taken into consideration.
The man in question has managed to amass a total of 34 convictions for 98 offenses and despite the recent property he burglarized utilizing electric gates he managed to break in scaring the 85-year-old who discovered the man in her room.
After the man was arrested near the scene he explained to officers that he had targeted the property in order to fund his drug habit.
Surprisingly, he in his defense he told the court that he was surprised to find that the property he had targeted was occupied and fled the scene empty-handed.
Why he thought the house would not be occupied is not clear, but still doesn’t give him a valid excuse for targeting the home that houses two elderly people. But, in order for elderly individuals to maintain their safety within their homes they should think about a device that they can utilize on a daily basis that will also protect them when they require it the most.
One such device is a stun gun. Not only that, but there are self defense devices that look like every day items such as canes which means that elderly people will be able to employ them as they go about their daily activities providing them with maximum safety wherever they are.
