Ease of Restrictions Will See TASER Devices in Every Police Car
With the restrictions in place the self defense units are only in 26 percent of front line police cars while officers who request them have to first obtain permission through the communications center in order to have them on duty.
Many feel though that more flexibility is required when it comes to the discretion of the officers. For example, if police are called to a domestic dispute, then a TASER device should be taken too as a precautionary measure.
Furthermore, support has been received over a proposal that would see lock-boxes in all front line cars. If officers require the employment of a self defense device regardless of the time of day or night, for operational purposes, then they will have it. Currently with only 26 percent of vehicles with access to lock-boxes, it doesn’t make sense for an officer to have to wait for another vehicle to arrive that does.
With the ease on restrictions due to take place in the next few months it will give officers greater peace of mind knowing that they have a unit on board that will protect them at a moment’s notice.
Not only that, but with the assistance from a TASER device officers will have a non-lethal weapon to employ in all circumstances, thus reducing the need for brute force which may lead to injuries.
Any form of injury to an officer would put them out of work for a period of time while a suspect that has sustained injuries will first need medical attention before being taken into police custody.
